Why you should be interested in this module or "Read Me First"

The Georgia Board of Nursing will be requiring proof of continued competency in order to renew your license starting in January 2016. This module will show you how to obtain that proof, and save you some money in the process.

When you have completed this module, you will be able to:
1. Choose which set of options apply to you.
2. Explain the consequences of not complying with the new rules.
3. Choose a CE provider, complete your first CE, and print out the certificate.

How do I navigate through this module?
In order to navigate through this module, you will use the row of boxes under the picture at the top of the page. The first box, Read Me First will bring you back here.

What do I do if I have questions or problems completing this module?
If you have any questions or problems as you go through this module, send me an email. I will respond within 24 hours Monday through Friday (that is one of many reasons why you should not wait till the last minute).

There are two different sets of rules, or options. One for LPNs and another for RNs. Click on the box at the top that says New Georgia Board of Nursing Requirements. It should take you to a page with links to RN, and LPN requirements as well as the official list of providers. Feel free to examine both if you are interested, or to skip to the appropriate link if you are not. This page also has a copy of the memo that explains the potential consequences of failing to comply with the new rules. Once you read through the Memo, click on the Read Me First button to come back here.

As you can see, LPNs only have two options; complete the CEs or go back to school. RNs have a few more options. Including one option for full time RNs that does not require any extra training, so if you are an RN whose license will expire in January 2016, read through the options carefully, you may save yourself some work. This module will focus on option 1, as it applies to the highest percentage of nurses. Click on the box that says Option 1. This will take you through the steps to complete your first CE. When you are done, click on the Board Approved Sources button and see what else is available. Remember RNs must complete 30 Contact Hours and LPNs must complete 20 before your license expires.
